Creating e-Mail addresses in your SANCTVS Hosting Account

[convertkit form=1322251]

In this article, we’ll walk you through the process of setting up an email account with SANCTVS’ hosting platform using cPanel.

cPanel is a web interface that gives you a great deal of fine-grained control over your web hosting package.

What we’ll be doing today is logging into the cPanel interface using the username and password given for your account, navigating to the part of cPanel that handles the creation and management of email accounts, creating a new email account (with a password), and then retrieving the technical information we will require to set up with other mail clients which will allow us to send and receive emails from the accounts which we create.

Any domain name that you register (e.g. www.yourdomain.com) that is linked to your hosting account can have email accounts created under it (e.g. address@yourdomain.com). The benefit here is that having an email account that is hosted on your own domain is much more polished and professional than hosting your address on an email service such as Google Mail, Yahoo, Microsoft Live, and so on.

To get started, you’ll need your Sanctus hosting account username and login information provided by us when you first signed up for your account.

Type in the name of your domain, followed by the characters :2083 to bring up the control panel login page. For example:

https://www.sanctvs.ca:2083

With this, if you’ve not already logged into your web hosting control panel, you should be able to see login page where you can enter in your information:

cPanel Login
Login to your cPanel account with your hosting account username and password.

Once you’ve entered in your username and password, you’ll be directed to your hosting control panel front page, which may look something like the following:

cPanel Front Page
Scroll down to the Email section from your cPanel front page.

From here, you’ll want to navigate down to the Email section, and click into the Email Accounts page, as shown highlighted in yellow below:

cPanel Email Accounts Link
Select the Email Accounts link.

Once there, you’ll want to click on the + CREATE button on the right-hand side to create a new email account:

cPanel Email Create Button
Click the + CREATE button to create a new email address.

And now you’re ready to enter in the information required to create your account. You will need a username (e.g. youraddress@yourdomain.com), and a secure password.

cPanel Email Creation Dialog Box
Enter in the account name and password for the email account you’d like to create, and specify how much storage space the account is to have.

Make sure you store your password somewhere safe that you do not forget it.

You’ll also need to specify how much maximum storage space you’d like to allocate to your email account. Our hosting platform provides you with unlimited space for emails, so we recommend modifying this setting to unlimited.

Once you’ve clicked the + CREATE button to create your email account, you will see the account created under your list of email accounts from your hosting control panel.

The only step remaining is to take the technical server information from your hosting control panel and configure them with your favourite email application. To do this, from the list of email accounts in your hosting panel, click on the Connect Devices button corresponding to the email address you want to retrieve the information for:

cPanel Email Connect Devices
Click the Connect Devices button to get the technical information required to configure your email account with another email application.

From there, you’ll be taken to the mail client configuration page which will contain the technical information you may need to enter into your email application of choice – including the mail server names and corresponding port numbers for each type of protocol (IMAP/POP3/SMTP):

cPanel Email Client Configuration
You can find links and the specific, manual technical information you’ll require to configure your email account with your favourite email application here.

Remember that Sanctus uses SSL/TLS to connect to accounts, as this provides a layer of encryption and secures your email account from hacking attempts. You’ll want to make sure you’re using the SSL/TLS settings to configure your email account with your favourite application.

Once you’ve configured your favourite email application using these settings, you’re done!

Remember that SANCTVS offers the setup of the first 10 email accounts with every standard hosting account for free! Feel free to reach out to us to help you set up your accounts if you find this process to be too cumbersome.
